Dear Visitor ji,
Last few weeks had been busy for the Indian diaspora with festivities, celebrations and information sessions. It was great to see active participation of members in these activities.
FINACT was also actively pursuing many of its activities. Recently FINACT lobbied Senator Nick Xenophon through India Australia Association of South Australia (IAASA) and it has resulted in opposing the “Amendment of Citizenship Rules” by his party. The Australian Government has now withdrawn the current bill.
For our members' attention and information, our first General Council Meeting of 2017-18 is being organised at the Australian Parliament on 30 October 2017.
Cricket season is still on for us and we are busy orgnaising the T20 Cricket Tournament and enabling the teams to participate in Thunder Nation Cup. FINACT is also supporting Diwali Celebrations by Hindu Council of Australia at the Australian Parliament House.
For any organisation to succeed it must have a vision. FINACT is connecting with key stakeholders to prepare its Vision 2020. As part of this FINACT executives met several dignitaries and member associations. A Public Consultation Forum is being organised on 14 October 2017 to seek community input.
FINACT had meetings with Senator Zed Seselja (Minister for Multicultural Affairs), Senator Katy Gallagher (Shadow Minister for Small Businesses), Honourable Andrew Leigh (Member of Parliament and Shadow Assistant Treasurer) and Mr Shane Rattenbury (ACT Minister for Corrections) to raise the community issues and also seeking the advice for India Centre. In this process we also had meetings with officers from various departments.
We are also initiating many other community programs to promote inclusiveness and multiculturalism.
FINACT wishes a very Happy Diwali - Festival of Lights to lighten up the present and brighten up the future for everyone.
Dr Krishna Nadimpalli
President FINACT
