We are happy and proud to share the news about our son Siddhant Badrinarayan who has been selected to represent Australia in the U12 FIDE World Cadets Chess Championships to be held from 21st to 31st August 2017 at Brazil. Sid, as he is popularly known is one of the 4 Australian junior chess players selected for this tournament. He is the only one from ACT and the Australian Indian Community.
Sidddhant is currently being coached by his long-term coach IM (International Master) Andras Toth and the team coach GM (Grand Master) Lubomir Flatcnik who is helping him prepare for the tournament. His elder brother Sankeertan, also a FIDE rated chess player, is his 24/7 chess partner, mentor, philosopher and guide.
12-year-old Siddhant, a student of year 8 in Harrison school has been actively playing chess for the last six years. He regularly plays in the Australian junior chess championships and other major tournaments. He has been consistently ranked in the top 10 in Australia for his age category and has won a number of prizes in tournaments held in ACT by the ACTJCL (ACT Junior Chess League). He received his international chess federation (FIDE) ranking in 2015.
Siddhant plays all versions of chess - classic, rapid and lightning. He stood third in the national lightning championship in 2014 and his dream is to participate in the World lightning championship. Cricket Coordination Committee Meeting - After Draws on 15 August
Cricket Coordination Committee (CCC) works on preparation, management of ongoing tournament and considers all aspects of feedback it receives through different channels.
We want to become an organisation that learns from its experiences and from others’ feedback and suggestions, capitalising on the lessons of successes and failures to improve our performance every year. Continuous improvement is our collective approach in which all captains, managers and FINACT's executive committee members seek out, support and implement changes to make the tournament better, bigger and cost-effective, when budget is significantly constrained. Through making better use of our own and others’ expertise we can make a significant difference to our tournament’s quality, cost-effectiveness and impact.
We strive to strengthen our collective ability to learn and to reap and apply the benefits of that listening, learning, and building capacity and utilising feedback mechanisms into continuous improvements.
If you are also interested in participating in the next meeting of Cricket Coordination Committee, you are most welcome. We appreciate your valuable suggestions for the tournament.
You can help us as:
- an adviser - with your constructive advice/suggestions
- a volunteer - lots of opportunities before, during and after each match
- a sport administrator or Protection Officer - being a part of decision-making body that is CCC
- a sponsor for the tournament - adopt a team or claim the title of the tournament
We appreciate and welcome all levels of interest in sponsoring our events. Contact us at [email protected]

Hope for Riaa
FINACT would like to request support for Mr Vivek Kulkarni and family. Their Daughter Riaa Kulkarni aged just 6 years is diagnosed with stage 4 Brain Stem Tumour. Please circulate this in your networks.
Only five kids across Australia have been diagnosed with this category of tumour till now. Treatment for this tumour is currently not available in Australia. They have an invitation from Mexico hospital who are trialling cure for this category of tumour.
Kulkarni family had migrated to Australia about three years ago but in the last one year since diagnosis they had to sell their property in India for their daughter's treatment. Currently Mr Kulkarni left his job to look after his daughter and take her to Mexico for treatment. They are not willing to give up hope for their daughter and have accepted the invitation from Mexico for the trial treatment, which is Riaa's only hope now. However, they need help monetarily.
FINACT has seen Riaa's Biopsy report and invitation from Mexico for treatment and understand that Mr Kulkarni and Riaa have already left for Mexico for treatment.
Attached is the 'gofundme' link to help raise funds for this expensive treatment https://www.gofundme.com/carrum-family-needs-help.
As a community please rally behind them as it will give Riaa a fair chance with the fight for a cure against this disease. Please circulate this amongst your organisations, family and friends and donate to help save a young girl's life.
For more details, please contact the undersigned.
Kind regards
