It is that time of year once again when the cricket fanatics in the ACT Indian community don their whites and take to the field to battle it out for the title of 2016 FINACT T-20 Cricket tournament champions.
It is my pleasure to once again extend my best wishes to all those taking part in this year’s competition and acknowledge the hard work of all of those who have taken time to put on this important and popular annual event.
Cricket is not only a game. It is a vehicle to demonstrate in a very tangible way the common links between Canberrans and also to highlight the essence of our multicultural community here in Canberra. This particular tournament is more evidence of the contribution that the Indian community makes to the rich social fabric that exists in our vibrant and diverse city.
These large events do not just happen. Special thanks must be given to those behind the scenes who have worked tirelessly for months to ensure that a successful tournament takes place. This work is appreciated and our city would not be as vibrant without the selfless volunteering that goes on behind the scenes of popular sporting events such as this one.
While I cannot be there in person to witness the fun and healthy competition of this year’s tournament, I am assured that the matches will be just as fiercely contested as it has in previous years.
Best of luck to all the competitors and I look forward to seeing the results of this year’s FINACT T-20 tournament!
