A passion for cricket is one of the many things that India and Australia have in common, and so it brings me great pleasure to extend congratulations to my good friend Amardeep Singh and his associates from the Federation of Indian Associations of ACT (FINACT) who organised the 2016 Westpac FINACT T20 Cricket Tournament, as well as my congratulations to those who participated and to all those who showed up to cheer the players on.
The Indian associations in Canberra are wonderfully rich and varied, reflecting the cultural, historical, religious and intellectual diversity of India itself, but I have no doubt that this very successful tournament has helped to foster greater unity amongst the territory’s Indian communities – and between these communities and others in our beautifully multicultural city.
I extend my best wishes to PK XI and the Karnataka Bulldozers, the tournament finalists.
Your passion and competitive spirit are an inspiration. Good luck to all the players for Sunday’s final – and to FINACT for many more successful cricket tournaments in future.
