It gives me great pleasure to extend my congratulations and best wishes to the Indian community in Canberra on this anniversary of Indian independence.
I would like to thank the Federation of Indian Associations in the ACT for their role in promoting and sharing this unique occasion with the rest of the Canberran community.
Fifteen years ago, I made my first visit to the beautiful country of India – a land with a remarkable culture.
Today, as we celebrate the 68th year of Indian independence, I am delighted to see this culture manifested throughout the Canberra region amongst our families, friends and other loved ones.
I wish all members of the Indian community in Australia a very happy Indian Independence Day.
