I am delighted to offer my warmest congratulations and support to FINACT on again staging the FINACT Rolling Trophy T20 cricket tournament here in Canberra.
Last year’s inaugural event was most successful with eight teams competing over four weeks. Along with a large crowd of Cricket lovers at Manuka Oval, I enjoyed some exciting cricket on the “Finals” day, with Andra Pradesh Warriors and Assam Rhinos doing battle for the inaugural Colliers Trophy.
I was also honoured, with the Acting High Commissioner of India, Mr V K Sharma, to be able to present the trophy to the winners Assam Rhinos, Captain Akash Saikia and the runners up Captain Sumanth, and to participate in the post match celebrations.
This year the competition has become bigger and stronger and twelve teams will now compete in the FINACT T-20 Cricket Tournament and I look forward in my capacity as Shadow Minister for Sport to once again follow the progress of this wonderful tournament.
My congratulations to President of FINACT Mrs Jayanti Gupta and her very industrious and energetic committee for once again staging the 2013 FINACT Rolling Trophy T20 cricket tournament, and wishthe best to all the competing teams in this year’s tournament.
These are matches that are ‘must see’ sporting events and of great importance in this special year in Canberra’s history. In this centenary year this is also a great example of Canberra’s truly multicultural community and shows how sport canlead the way to better understanding within our diverse Canberra community.
