About AEKTA
AEKTA is a women’s network established under the Federation of Indian Associations in the ACT (FINACT). Initially known as FINACT Sakhi, the group was rebranded as AEKTA to better reflect our commitment to harmony, unity, and the multicultural spirit of Canberra. As a social enterprise, AEKTA provides a warm, welcoming space for women of Indian origin in Canberra and the surrounding region to socialise, connect, and feel truly at home. Reflecting the close‑knit communities many of us cherish from back home, AEKTA nurtures the Indian woman’s spirit—celebrating her resilience, compassion, and sense of belonging.
As the Indian community continues to grow, so does the need for women to find a friend, a confidante—someone they can trust, share their journey with, or seek guidance from. AEKTA offers that platform, fostering genuine connection, support, and sisterhood.
Mission Statement
To build a supportive network where every woman feels seen, valued and inspired.

Events
The AEKTA team organises events throughout the year that reflect the heart of the network—celebrating womanhood, unity, and the joy of shared experiences.
The International Women’s Day event, held on 8 March 2026, honoured the strength and versatility of women by showcasing the many roles they play in keeping their families safe, nurtured, and connected. The event highlighted how women help create a “home away from home” and was supported by allies and sponsors from the Indian community and the High Commission of India.
AEKTA also hosted several social gatherings, including a Floriade walk, a Spring Day picnic, and a Mother’s Day celebration, each designed to bring women together in a relaxed and joyful environment.
In addition to social events, AEKTA organises training sessions and capacity‑building workshops, which are advertised periodically.
Governance
AEKTA operates as a FINACT initiative. Its administration is overseen each financial year by the FINACT Women’s Representative, supported by a dedicated Women’s Subcommittee made up of community members. Together, they guide AEKTA’s activities to ensure it remains a vibrant, inclusive, and empowering space for Indian women in the ACT and surrounding region.
