It is an honour to congratulate the organisers, participants and supporters involved in the successful 2016 Westpac–FINACT T20 cricket tournament.
There are many cultural, historical and institutional ties that link Australia and India. Of course, the common love of cricket is a strong bond that unite us.
Growing up, I enjoyed watching players such as Kapil Dev, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. Now, the likes of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are leading a new generation of talented Indian cricketers. Not only have these people been extraordinary players, but they have also been great ambassadors for the sport and for India.
The Westpac–FINACT T20 cricket tournament brings together Indian cricketers in Canberra, with 13 teams competing in this year’s tournament. Just as international cricket unites people across the world, local cricket unites our Canberra community.
I wish the best of luck to the tournament finalists, Karnataka Bulldozers and BJSM PK XI.
The success of this tournament is a credit to everyone involved. Once again, I congratulate the organisers, players, umpires and sponsors for hosting and taking part in the tournament.
Sincerely,
Alistair Coe MLA
