On the occasion of India’s 65th Independence Day I am pleased to have the opportunity to congratulate the Indian community on this great milestone.
The contribution of people of Indian heritage helps make Canberra such a wonderfully diverse city. I especially commend the influence and contribution of Indian-Australians in areas such as business, public service, education, science, engineering, medicine and the arts, just to name a few.
Canberra Liberals candidate for Ginninderra, Jacob Vadakkedathu is the immediate past President of the Federation of Indian Associations in the ACT (FINACT). Jacob is the first Canberra Liberals candidate of Indian heritage and it is a privilege to have him as part of our team. I congratulate Jacob on his and the other committee members efforts in establishing FINACT, which provides a great support for many Indian associations across the ACT.
I pay tribute to the Indian community on this proud occasion, I hope you have a successful year ahead and I look forward to working with you in the future.
