Message from ACT Minister for Multicultural Affairs Joy Burch MLA:
I am grateful for the opportunity to convey my best wishes to Canberra’s Indian community as you mark the 66th anniversary of India’s independence, an anniversary that marks one of the most important days in your country’s history. 
This time of year also coincides with the foundation of FINACT in 2011, and I am proud to have been chosen to be the patron of your fantastic organisation. I have been impressed by how cohesive and inclusive FINACT has been since its inception, and you have done a commendable service to your communities in bringing together so many community groups under one umbrella.
The growth of FINACT in just two years is testament to how successful it has been and how hard many of you have worked to achieve the objectives of FINACT’s establishment.
Congratulations once again for the great work and dedication of the Indian community and associations for enriching our community through your tireless and invaluable work.
I congratulate all members of the local Indian community, and the leaders within their organisations, for their willingness to set up this representative body. Your actions have shown a true community spirit and a desire to promote a cohesive and cooperative Indian community here in the ACT.
The Indian presence here in Canberra is very strong and members of the Indian community are active and very valued citizens who contribute enormously to our social and economic prosperity.
In my time as Minister for Multicultural Affairs I have had the privilege of attending many celebrations and events across the many Indian community groups, and I look forward to continuing to work with you to showcase and celebrate Canberra’s cultural diversity.
